The Timeline is Where Films Are Made

Reverie's new timeline view puts you in control of story structure before generation—scenes as blocks, clips inside them, full creative control.

The Timeline is Where Films Are Made

Films aren't built in prompt boxes or generation queues. They're built in the edit—where you make thousands of micro-decisions about pacing, sequence, tone, and impact. That's where the real filmmaking happens.

We've built Reverie's timeline view around this simple truth. It's where story structure becomes visible, editable, and real before a single frame is generated.

How It Works

Instead of writing prompts and waiting for outputs, you're now working directly with the blocks of your film.

Scenes as discrete blocks — Each scene lives as a draggable unit on your timeline. No nested menus. No hidden structure. You see the whole architecture of your story at once.

Clips nested inside scenes — Within each scene block, clips sit stacked and ready. Want to reorder them? Extend one? Cut another? It's all immediate visual feedback.

Drag, reorder, cut — The timeline speaks a language filmmakers already know. Click and drag to reorganize. Right-click to trim. Rearrange shots before they're even rendered.

This is the editing paradigm that's worked for decades in Premiere, Final Cut, and Avid. We've brought it to AI filmmaking.

Why This Matters

Generative filmmaking isn't about removing the filmmaker. It's about removing friction from the wrong parts of the process.

AI is exceptional at rendering pixels from descriptions. It's fast, it's capable, and it gets better every month. That's the tool. But you—the filmmaker—are exceptional at something else: understanding story.

When you can see your entire timeline at once, you can make real editorial decisions. You can feel pacing. You can spot where a scene drags or where a beat lands. You can restructure on instinct, the way editors have always worked.

AI handles the pixels. You handle the story.

That separation of concerns is where the magic happens.

Building in Public

We're shipping this now because it's useful now. It's not perfect—we're iterating based on filmmaker feedback every week. But waiting for perfect means waiting to learn what filmmakers actually need.

The timeline view is live on Reverie. We're building in public because the best film tools are built with filmmakers, not for them. If you're making films with AI, we want to hear how you'd change this.

What's Next

We're focused on making timeline operations faster and adding more granular clip-level controls. We're also exploring real-time preview—seeing edits before render—which could fundamentally change how you work.

This is just the beginning.
