The editing model is the hard part

Why the bottleneck in AI filmmaking isn't generation quality — it's what happens after the clip is generated.

Something I've learned building Reverie Movies: the hardest part of making an AI filmmaking tool isn't the AI.

It's the editing model.

Most people think the bottleneck in creative AI tools is generation quality. And yes, that matters. But what actually breaks the creative flow is what happens after the clip is generated.

You have a 4-second clip. Now what?

Where does it go in your story? How does it connect to the next scene? What if you want to reorder things? What if the audio doesn't line up?

I spent months on this before I touched generation. The result:

→ An Arrangement View where you drag and reorder scenes freely → A Timeline View where scenes and audio tracks sit on the same axis → Scene linking — so transitions carry visual continuity between clips → Non-destructive editing — nothing is locked until you export

The generation is almost the easy part. Getting the editing model right — where each decision is reversible, nothing is siloed, and the whole project stays coherent — that's where the real work is.

Building creative tools is humbling. The people who use them have strong opinions about how things should feel. As they should.

📣 Early Adopters Program: now live across X, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn. Early reception is strong — there's clear demand for a tool that gives filmmakers a real production workflow, not just clip generation. 300 free credits included, early adopters only → reveriemovies.com?utm_source=linkedin

🛠️ Shipped this week: — Timeline manipulation: move scenes and audio freely, trim to the frame you want — Multiple audio tracks — think stems for music. Layer a score, dialogue, and sound effects independently — Play All: preview the full film end-to-end as you edit

🔭 Coming next: Something I'm genuinely excited about — a feature that enables complete narrative continuity and scene capture. Nothing else in this space is close to it. Watch this space.
